The bust located in the statue park commemorates Máté Szepsi Laczkó (1567–1633), preacher, historian and, according to old stories, the creator of the first Aszú wine – however, historical sources have shown that Aszú was made several decades earlier.
After his foreign studies, he stayed in Erdőbénye until his death. Today, he is renowned for his writings on wine-making methods.
His records titled ‘Short notices to remember’ (from 1520 to 1619) are outstanding historical sources from the era of István Bocskai and Gábor Báthory.
