Since its 1735 foundation, the archives have been used by the Reformed Dioceses of Upper Hungary. Beside extensive family archives, it has a remarkable collection on the economic history of Sárospatak.
The documents on local and church history and ethnography contain valuable information on Hungarian culture.
In the beginning, the archives gathered data only from the Bodrogköz, Hegyköz and Hegyalja region – today, the collection contains documents from all over the Carpathian Basin. In addition, visitors can learn about various waves of migration and about the everyday lives of Reformed congregations.
