The original building was constructed on the orders of Ferenc Rákóczi II. The castle has thick stone walls and vaulted halls. Its later owner, Ádám Szirmay had the present facade built in the second half of the 18th century.
There is a cellar row under the Late Baroque-style castle, which is surrounded by the remains of the one-time castle park. The Ratkó Memorial Plaque can be found on the castle wall. József Ratkó, the József Attila Award-winner poet (1936–1989), lived in the local Reformed orphanage from 1944 to 1949.
