In the Sárospatak College, the first fully-fledged institute for teachers’ training started in 1857 – today, the Comenius Teachers’ Training College is part of the Károly Eszterházy College – and in 1869, the institution was moved to a building that previously housed military barracks.
The old barracks were reconstructed and extended between 1911 and 1913, providing the basis of today’s college building. The designers, Jenő Lechner and Gyula Vargha used traditional Upper Hungarian and Renaissance decorative elements.
