Previously functioning as a county hall, the building symbolizes stability and dignity. The young Kossuth gave his first speech from the balcony over the main entrance during the 1831 peasant’s revolt.
The ceremonial hall on the top floor is decorated by portraits of historical figures, a painted wooden gallery, a county crest and several memorial plates. The Archives of Zemplén County are located on the top floor of the north wing.
The Kazinczy statue in the inner court is the 1968 work of Pál Pátzay.
